Bath In Fashion: Pattern Talks

As part of Bath in Fashion, Bath Spa University’s Bath School of Art and Design is hosted a day dedicated to ‘Pattern’ on Friday 22 April 2016.

It was a fantastic opportunity to hear four different talks from eminent designers and pattern experts including Fashion Designer Joe Richards in conversation with Elaine Uttley from the Fashion Museum, Mark Eley from Eley Kishimoto exploring ‘Pattern as Life’, Liv Taylor from PATTERNITY looking at pattern all around us, and Rhonda Drakeford from Darkroom discussing her passion for pattern.

Allen, C. Copyright [2016] Sandra Rhodes going into the Assembly Rooms where she also gave talk about her work in fashion. Zandra Rhodes is an internationally acclaimed designer whose iconic work has been seen on red carpet events and runways throughout the world.

Talks I attended were:

Fashion designer and Designer in Residence at Bath Spa University, Joe Richards in conversation with Elaine Uttley from the Fashion Museum, Bath about the wonderful patterns that can be found in the museum archives.

London-based print studio, Eley Kishimoto who gained global notoriety through a plethora of outputs ranging from fashion and interiors to diverse architectural and design collaborations including VANS and NIKE to name a few.

PATTERNITY, founded in 2009 by Anna Murray and Grace Winteringham who uses pattern as a tool to inspire, explore and innovate.

Darkroom is an independent design label, online store and a standalone London shop where good design is accessible to all. They are drawn to graphic contrasts, the geometry found in tribal patterns, and a structural simplicity of modern and postmodern design.

Fashion Designer Joe Richards 'Dancing with Morris' discussed his 2016 Ladies fashion collection inspired by William Morris. (Please see previous post) Joe brought along a collection of Morris's original wallpaper prints which were amazing to see. Joe's sketchbooks were also very inspiring.
